This will be a great opportunity for just our members to meet and visit with the University of Illinois’ men’s head basketball coach, John Groce, his new staff and their families!

Complimentary light appetizers will be served and a cash bar will be provided. A formal welcome and introduction of the men’s basketball staff will take place at 6:00pm, followed by comments from Coach Groce and his staff. Throughout the event, there will be a silent auction, featuring an autographed basketball signed by the entire coaching staff, an autographed Illini blue sports chair signed by the coaching staff AND an “Illini Basketball Experience” for 2 at the first regular season game! This includes attending practice the day before at the Ubben basketball complex and all of the actual game day experiences, leading up to sitting on the bench during the game and complete with a parking pass!

Please save the date, wear orange and let’s welcome the new “Fighting Illini” men’s basketball coaching staff and their families, Illini Rebounders style!

There has been a lot of change in the last 3 weeks regarding Illini basketball and it has affected many directly or indirectly, professionally and personally. Our role as Illini Rebounders is to support the men’s basketball program by raising money for their program and supporting them as a unit. I want to thank every Rebounder member and our board for doing just that this past season. It’s not been easy at times but we have always taken the high road and stayed positive regardless of the circumstances. I know that Coach Weber, his staff, and the players have greatly appreciated our efforts and events that have provided an “Illini nation” atmosphere. We thank Coach Weber and his staff for everything they have given to the University of Illinois and to the young men they have coached and guided both on and off the court. And, it goes without saying we are going to miss them tremendously. In fact, we already do…

Now, we move forward, embrace the change, and welcome the new head coach, John Groce and his family to our Illini Rebounder family, as they prepare to move west and trade in the OU green for the Illini orange and blue! I’m sure it has been an emotional time for them as well and we owe them our support and guidance as they embark on their next exciting journey( and his “dream job” as he stated) as a family.
So, WELCOME! We look forward to meeting and working with you and can’t wait for this new chapter of Illini men’s basketball to begin!

We, as the official organization, were so fortunate to have a head coach who took such an active role as we worked to support the men’s basketball program financially and as fans. We also want to thank Coach for promoting us on countless occasions throughout the years and for supporting new ideas as we worked to increase our membership. We also admire Bruce and Megan’s deep commitment to raising money (and a lot of it) for Coaches vs. Cancer. They worked as a team which only inspired us to do the same.

Last but not least, we applaud and admire Coach Weber’s high character, integrity, and his resolve to make his players the best they could be, both on and off the court. Thank you for sharing the players with us. We saw numerous times how giving he was of his time, insight, and energy and as a result we are a better organization because of him.

Illini Rebounders wish Coach Weber the very best as he looks towards the future as he continues to pursue his dream of being a collegiate basketball coach.

The native of Postville,Iowa, spent six years at the University of Hawaii, including three as head trainer, before accepting the Illinois position.

Martindale received his B.S. in physical education from Upper Iowa University in 1973. From UIU, he went to Indiana State, where he earned a master’s degree in 1974. His next stop was Moline (Ill.) High School, where
he spent three years before taking the position at Hawaii.

In addition to working with the basketball team, Martindale’s responsibilities include the prevention and treatment of injuries for athletes in all 19 of Illinois’ varsity sports. He also supervises 10 full-time assistants, five graduate assistants and more than a dozen student trainers.

Martindale was inducted into the Upper Iowa University Sports Hall of Fame during the summer of 2005 and also is a member of the Illinois Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame.

Martindale and his wife, Lisa, have two children, Meghan and Marc, and live in Savoy.
